Mount Sunapee is the most overlooked mountain in all of New England when it comes to glade skiing when tourists come to New Hampshire they flock to mountains such as Cannon, Wildcat, Loon, Or Bretton Woods. While these mountains offer incredible skiing they aren't always the best place to be on a powder day. I believe most people overlook Sunapee because they get to caught up looking at the trail map and all the marked trails and not the little blue lines or the old lifeline or steep cliff zones, Yes there's cliffs at Mount Sunapee. A year ago I posted the best unmarked glades on this website and I only posted the only 5 glades I knew about, I had wrong locations and wrong names; the list was pretty bad. But that's the awesome thing when it comes to unmarked glades you can always find another patch of woods to explore or another person to tell you the names of them. The biggest downfall about the glades at Mount Sunapee is that a lot of them are very obvious and get tracked out very quickly. In this list i'm not going to keep any of my secret stashes to myself. I don't believe in that, if go to a new mountain I want to ski all the best lines and I think you should be able too.
Duckling Double. This is an old liftline, The original lift was built in either 1957 or 1962. The lift was retired in 2017. The lift was removed in 2020 and has never been replaced. You can take either Goosebumps or Guster to the Duckling Double if you take Guster you'll see it roped off from the top but continue down past the the top and you'll see a wide path on the righthand side at the very top of Eggbeater, Take that to the very top of the line and start skiing.
Eggbeater Woods. I don't know the history about Eggbeater Woods, I'm unsure if that's even the real name but I do know that this is a really fun short glade but you can see the whole line from the North Peak Triple so it gets tracked out much quicker then other lines. To get to Eggbeater Woods you have to take Upper Flying Goose at about a little more then half way down the trail you'll see a gap in the woods to skiers right at that point get some speed get up a little hill and hop in the woods and start skiing.
Old Chute. This is one of my personal favorite trails at mount Sunapee and doesn't see to many ski tracks so it can stay good for a while to get to the Old Chute you can either take Hansen Chute or Lynx. If you take Lynx you have to go to the left of the race webbing on the side of the trail at the very top and ski down for a while until you see a old pipe ski a little farther past that the take a left into the woods you'll see a wide chute, ski that out to the bottom. If you approach from Hansen Chase ski about halfway down Hansen Chase until you see a path through the woods take that until you pop out onto Lynx and take a left into the woods at the same spot you would if you take Lynx. In this YouTube video the Old Chute Starts at 5:07 watch
Tin Can. This is probably the second most well known glade at Sunapee, But it's popular for good reason. It's incredibly fun and has 5-10 good size rock drops and is a long fun run. To get to Tin Can you have to take goosebumps for a couple turns until you see a big rock and other ski tracks, follow these tracks over the big rock and ski the tracks down, I once caused a decent size slide on the big boulder at the start.
Cliff Zone. I'm just going to call this cliff zone since it doesn't have any other names that I know of, There's cliffs ranging from 3-30ft in here and you can definitely get cliffed out relatively easily. I don't recommend skiing these woods alone, Since this is by far the hardest/sketchiest glade on the mountain. The most popular line is 25-35 degrees and if you haven't skied these before, I don't recommend going in here before there's any tracks. You also have the push for a while to get back to the main trails, I once had to hike for 20 mins in chest deep snow. To get to this zone take the Triple up to the top of the North peak and follow the tracks right behind where Goosebump starts and ski anywhere, hopefully you don't get cliffed out.
Fox. Fox is just a small little glade area that's never been cleared out but is a very enjoyable run if you're in the area. To get to Fox just hop into the woods anywhere to skiers left of Fox Run
Williamson Streambeds. there's only one dilemma at the end of these lines, there's a horrible river crossing. But in high snow years you can ski it all the way to lift. There is two main lines in this zone (and tons of variations) they're both small streambeds that lead down to the big brook with a bad crossing, To get to these ski down the Williamson trail and you'll see them to skiers left.
Johnson Brook: In high Snow years skiing all the way from Solitude to the final drainage under Williamson is possible. When the brook freezes over, it creates one of the best laps on the mountain.
Small Cut-through. This is just a small cut through, But I figured it was notable enough to put on this list. To get to this take Skyway Ledges and immediately after the first small hill you'll see the line to skiers left.
22 Trees. This is a super fun line and you can get going crazy fast but watch out because this barely wide enough to turn and slow down and you pop out onto Skyway Ledges very quickly and you could crash into someone so try your best to control your speed. To get to 22 Trees take Bonanza until you see a big loop to skiers right and instead of taking a left back to Bonanza continue straight.
2 Paths. These are just two little paths ones off of Ridge and ones off of Blastoff.
Buddahs Revenge. This is probably the most popular unmarked at Mount Sunapee since you can see the whole thing from the Sunapee Express, This hasn't been cleared out in a while so it's very bushy also there's a river crossing in the lower section so don't try skiing this with less than 16 Inches of snow. To get to this is pretty straight forward just ski summit glades and continue straight after the trail ends the upper section is pretty fun but the lower section is much better. The upper section ends on Toboggan Chute and just continue straight across the trail to lower section ski the lower part until you get to the river crossing cross the river and head skiers left back out to Lower Blastoff.
Bob's Glade. This trail is just the best. This is the type of trail you can ski a thousand times and never get bored of, This trail sees a fair bit of traffic but not close to as much as other lines. To get to Bob's ski down Upper Blastoff until you get to a intersection with Ridge, go into the woods right here and have one of the best glade runs ever.
